The greatest time-travel story ever told in any medium. Okabe Rintarou is one of the most compelling characters in anime. Episode 22 is devastating in a way few pieces of fiction achieve. The slow build of the first half pays off spectacularly.
The Soul Society arc remains one of the greatest shonen arcs ever animated. The Thousand-Year Blood War anime finally gave us the adaptation we deserved 15 years later. Ichigo's True Bankai reveal against Yhwach is cathartic on a spiritual level. The fashion and soundtrack alone make it worth it.
Gege Akutami writes anime like he has a personal vendetta against the audience. The action choreography by MAPPA is some of the most technically impressive animation ever. What sets JJK apart is the unpredictability — no one is safe. Domain Expansions as a mechanic are endlessly creative.
The Chimera Ant arc is the single greatest arc in anime history — a Medici family-level tragedy about humanity, evolution, and what it means to feel. Gon's breakdown destroyed me. Meruem and Komugi redefined what a villain could be. Madhouse's adaptation is flawless. HxH is the ceiling.
The Chunin Exams, the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, and Pain's Assault are some of the best story arcs in shonen history. Naruto's speech to Pain is iconic. The problem is the ungodly amount of filler and the Fourth Shinobi War dragging for 200 episodes. But when Naruto hits, nothing hits harder.
Visually the most stunning anime ever produced. Ufotable raised the bar so high that every other studio is still trying to catch up. Tanjiro is a breath of fresh air as a genuinely kind protagonist. The Mugen Train arc is a cinema masterpiece. Only knocked down a point because the cast outside the main trio needed more development.
Peak fiction, full stop. Every character has a complete arc. The alchemy system is internally consistent and brilliantly creative. The Ishval flashbacks hit like a freight train and the finale earns every single tear. If you could only watch one anime, it's this.
Light Yagami is the greatest antagonist protagonist in anime history. The first 25 episodes — Light vs L — are a perfect psychological thriller that I will never stop recommending. The writing is airtight, the cat-and-mouse tension is suffocating. A genuine 10/10 front half.
An absolute masterpiece of storytelling across every single arc. The final season is controversial but Eren's transformation from wide-eyed kid to genocidal idealist is one of the most daring character arcs in anime history. The production values, OST by Hiroyuki Sawano, and direction are flawless. Mandatory viewing.
